Why Can’t I Place an Order on Some Instruments?

When you buy or sell on EasyEquities, you can choose how your trade executes. There are two approaches:

Market order

Buy or sell now or as soon as the market opens at the best available price

Your trade executes immediately at the best available price. Simple, fast, and no additional fee.

Advanced order

Buy or sell on your terms

You set conditions for when your trade should execute. Useful when you want more control over price or risk.

  • Limit order - buy or sell only if the price reaches your target
  • Stop loss - automatically sell if the price drops to your set level
  • Take profit - automatically sell when your target price is hit

Why can't I place an advanced order on some instruments?

If advanced orders appear greyed out or disabled on a specific instrument, it means that instrument doesn't currently qualify for advanced order functionality.

Advanced orders require sufficient market liquidity - meaning enough consistent trading activity for your order to execute reliably at a specified price. When an instrument has low liquidity, a wide price spread, or unstable pricing, advanced orders are disabled. This protects you from orders executing at unexpected prices, or not executing at all.

In plain terms: Low liquidity also makes it easier for bad actors to manipulate a stock price through coordinated or large orders. Restricting advanced orders on thinly traded instruments is a safeguard for all clients.
