What is a Passkey?

Passkeys are here to make signing in smoother and safer. Here’s everything you need to know?

Basics

What’s a Passkey?

A passkey is a new, easier way to sign in - no password needed. Instead of typing, you unlock your EasyEquities account with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN. Think of it like your device becoming the key to your account?

Why are Passkeys Being Introduced?

Because they make your login both simpler and more secure. Passkeys protect you from common scams like phishing or stolen passwords. They’re already used by trusted companies like Apple, Google, and PayPal. With a passkey, signing in is faster and your account stays safer.

How Are Passkeys Safer Than Passwords?

Passkeys follow international best practice standards (like those from the FIDO Alliance and NIST). Unlike passwords, they can’t be stolen in a data breach or guessed by hackers. They live securely on your device, and you unlock them with something unique to you - like your fingerprint or PIN. Best of all, they won’t work on fake websites, so phishing attempts fall flat.

Do I Still Have to Use a Passkey?

Nope. Passkeys are optional. If you’d rather stick with your password, that’s totally fine. Over time, you might find passkeys more convenient - but the choice is always yours.

Setup and Use

How Do I Set Up a Passkey?

Log into your EasyEquities account.

  1. Go to Account Settings → Security.
  2. Select Add a Passkey.
  3. Confirm with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN.

Once that’s done, your device saves the passkey. Next time you log in, it’s just a quick tap or glance.

You can set up passkeys on both the app and desktop site. Most people start on their phone using Face ID, Touch ID, or screen lock - but you can add more devices anytime.

Which Devices Work with Passkeys?

Almost all modern smartphones, tablets, and computers support them — including iPhones (iOS 16+), Android devices (Android 9+), and Windows PCs (Windows 10+). Just make sure your browser is up to date (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox all work).

Want to double-check your device? Here’s a compatibility guide.

Do All Devices and Browsers Support Passkeys?

Not yet. Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Outdated devices or browsers may not support them.
  • Some in-app browsers (like those inside email apps) won’t work with passkeys - switch to your normal browser instead.
  • If you’re using a shared or public computer, a password may be the safer choice.
Do I Need a Passkey for Each Device?

Yes. Each device saves its own passkey. You can register more than one - for example, your phone, tablet, and laptop - so you can log in from anywhere.

Where Is My Passkey Stored?

On your device only -  never on EasyEquities’ servers. Your biometric data (fingerprint or face) never leaves your device. EasyEquities just gets a secure “yes, it’s you” message.

  • On Apple devices: stored in iCloud Keychain.
  • On Android: stored in Google Password Manager.
  • On Windows: managed by Windows Hello.

Reassurance: EasyEquities never stores your biometrics. Your unique data stays private.

Can I Use My Phone’s Passkey to Log In on My Computer?

Yes. If your computer doesn’t have a passkey saved, you can scan a QR code with your phone and approve the login using your fingerprint or face there. No typing required.

Can Passkeys Work Across Devices?

Yes. Passkeys can be added to different devices and they sync if you’re in the same ecosystem:

  • Apple only: syncs through iCloud Keychain.
  • Android/Chrome: syncs through Google Password Manager.
  • Mixed devices: you can create separate passkeys on each device.
  • Password managers: some cross-platform managers now support passkeys too.
Tip: You’ll see a list of your saved passkeys in Account Settings → Security. You can remove any at any time.

Troubleshooting & Support

I Don’t See the Option to Set Up a Passkey.

Make sure your device and browser are up to date. If it’s still missing, you can carry on using your password - or reach out to our support team for help.

I Lost My Device. What Now?

Don’t stress. You can still log in with your password. Then, from Account Settings → Security, remove the passkey linked to the lost device. After that, set up a new passkey on your replacement device.

My Fingerprint or Face ID Isn’t Working.

No worries - passkeys also work with your PIN or screen lock. You don’t have to use biometrics if you don’t want to.

I’m Not Comfortable with Biometrics. Are There Alternatives?

Absolutely. You can use your device PIN or password instead of a fingerprint or face scan. And if you’d prefer not to use passkeys at all, your EasyEquities password will still work just fine.
