Everything you need to know about US IPO access on EasyEquities - what’s possible, what isn’t, and why.
An IPO (Initial Public Offering) is when a private company sells shares to the public for the very first time. Think of it as a company’s stock market debut. Before that day, the shares aren’t available to trade at all.
Not quite, and we want to be straight with you about that.
Through our USD account, EasyEquities gives you access to trade US-listed shares on the secondary market, meaning once a company starts trading publicly on an exchange like Nasdaq or NYSE, you’re in. Pre-listing is a different story.
To participate in a primary US IPO allocation (buying in before Day 1 of trading), you need to be part of a US underwriting syndicate. Our US partner, doesn’t currently offer this for retail investors, which means we can’t offer it to you either.
This isn’t us being coy. It’s just how the plumbing works.
Retail platforms generally require access to a US underwriting syndicate before they can offer primary IPO allocations. If you come across a platform or individual promising pre-listing US IPO shares, it’s worth keeping your scepticism switched on. It’s a space where the line between opportunity and nonsense can get blurry pretty quickly.
The moment a company starts trading on a US exchange, our team works to get it available on your EasyEquities USD account as quickly as the market plumbing lets us. Timing isn’t guaranteed as it depends on how fast our US partner gets the instrument live, but for high-profile listings, we’re on it.
You can request it. Submit a stock request via the form - it takes two minutes. We can’t guarantee every request, but demand matters, and high-interest stocks move up the queue.
SpaceX is expected to list on 12 June 2026, and judging by the number of questions we’ve had, we’re clearly not the only ones watching!
The same rules apply though: no pre-listing allocation, but once it’s live on the exchange, we’ll be working to get it on platform as quickly as the market plumbing lets us.
Yes, actively! Expanding into US primary IPO access is on our radar, and our product team is exploring what that could look like. If that changes, we’ll let you know through our official channels.
JSE IPOs are a different beast. The rules, allocation process, and market structure don’t mirror what happens in the US. When retail allocations are available through EasyEquities, we’ll do our best to make them accessible on the platform and keep you posted in-app.
