Capitec Quick Start Guide

If you're accessing EasyEquities via your Capitec Bank app, here's a quick reference guide with all the information you might need.

Forgot Your Username?
  1. Tap Forgot Username on the login page 
  2. Enter your email and date of birth 
  3. Check your inbox for an email with your username 

Didn’t get the email?
Log a ticket with our support team - we’ll help you get back in.
Request or update your username

Need to Reset Your Password?
  1.  Tap Forgot Password 
  2. Enter your username 
  3. You’ll receive a code by email 
  4. Copy the code and go back to the Reset Password screen 
  5. Paste the code, tap Validate, then enter your new password 

Just want to change it?
Log in → Tap the Profile menu → Select Change Password
Change/reset your password 

Want Extra Security?

Enable 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) for more protection: 

  1. Go to your Profile 
  2. Tap Security Settings 
  3. Use an app like Google Authenticator 
  4. Scan the QR code 
  5. Enter the 6-digit code to finish setup 

2FA adds a second layer of protection when logging in.

Managing Your Profile & Bank Details 

Get your EasyEquities profile ready in just a few taps - from activating accounts to setting up dividend preferences.

Activating Your Accounts

When you register, you automatically get a: 

  • ZAR Account 
  • TFSA 
  • USD Account 
  • Demo ZAR/USD Accounts 

Want to invest in crypto, property, global shares, or retirement products? 

Here’s how to activate more accounts: 

Steps: 

  1. Tap the hamburger menu (≡) 
  2. Go to Account Management > Add and Manage Accounts 
  3. Tap Activate New Accounts 
  4. Tick the box next to the account you want 
  5. Tap Activate

Linking Your Bank Account

You’ll need to link your personal bank account before you can withdraw funds. 

  • You can add 2 accounts per currency 
  • The bank account must be in your name 

Steps: 

  1. Log in and tap My Profile (top right) 
  2. Tap Banking Details 
  3. Fill in required fields accurately to ensure there are no delays with verification 

If it takes more than 2 days: 

Log a ticket with a bank confirmation letter or recent statement to fast-track it.

Transaction Fee Settings

When you invest, you can choose how fees are applied: 

  • Inclusive: The amount you enter includes the fee 
    • e.g. You invest R100 total - fees come off that 
  • Exclusive: The fee is added on top 
    • e.g. You invest R100 + fee 

To update your fee setting: 

  1. Tap the hamburger menu (≡) 
  2. Go to Account Preferences 
  3. Scroll to Transaction Fees 
  4. Select your option and tap Save

Dividend Preferences

When your investments pay dividends, choose how you want to receive them: 

  • Cash Dividend: Paid into your EasyEquities account 
  • Reinvest: Automatically reinvested to buy more of the same share 

Set your preference: 

  1. Tap the hamburger menu (≡) 
  2. Go to Account Preferences > Dividend and Income Distribution Preference

Can I Hide Shares I Don’t Want to Invest In?

Yes - you can exclude shares from appearing while browsing. 

Useful for: 

  • Following Shariah principles 
  • Avoiding certain industries or sectors 

To set exclusions: 

  1. Go to Account Management > Account Preferences > Automatic Exclusions 
  2. Tap Add 
  3. Select the shares or types you'd like to hide

Prefer Manual EFT?

Still want to use traditional EFTs? No problem. 

Steps: 

  1. Log in and tap My Funds > Deposit Funds 
  2. Choose the account (ZAR, TFSA, etc.) 
  3. Select EFT as the deposit method 
  4. Copy your EasyEquities deposit reference exactly as shown 
  5. Go to your banking app 
  6. Add EasyEquities as a beneficiary 
  7. Paste your reference under "Beneficiary Reference" 
  8. Make the transfer 

Your deposit reference helps us match payments to your profile without delay
Manual EFTs typically reflect within 2 business days

How do I move money between my EasyEquities accounts? (TFSA/EasyProperties)

Once you’ve funded your ZAR account, you’re able to transfer your money into your other accounts, for e.g. to your TFSA, or EasyProperties account.

Steps: 

  1. Tap My Funds on the bottom right
  2. Select Transfers & Forex 
  3. Choose: 
  • From: ZAR account
  • To: your target account 
  1. Enter the amount 
  2. Tick the Ts & Cs box 
  3. Tap Transfer Now
Convert Rands to Foreign Currencies (and back) with EasyFX

Want to invest in U.S., UK, EU, or Australian shares? 

Use EasyFX to convert rands into: 

  • USD 
  • GBP 
  • EUR 
  • AUD 

Steps: 

  1. Tap the hamburger menu (≡) 
  2. Select EasyFX 
  3. Choose: 
  • From: ZAR account (or a foreign wallet if converting back) 
  • To: your target currency wallet 
  1. Enter the amount 
  2. Tick the Ts & Cs box 
  3. Tap Transfer Now 

Currency exchange happens inside EasyEquities - no additional FX steps needed 

How EasyFX works
Funding USD from a Bank Account (via SWIFT)

If you’re funding directly from a foreign bank account: 

Steps: 

  1. Tap My Funds > Deposit Funds 
  2. Choose your USD account, then select EFT 
  3. Copy the SWIFT banking details provided 
  4. In your banking app, add the Beneficiary Reference (e.g. EE12345-67890) into the payment notes/message field 
  5. Complete the international transfer 

SWIFT funding is there for you to fund foreign wallets using an EFT from a bank account (non-SA or otherwise) or if you’re unable use EasyFX. 

International SWIFT payments can take longer to process than local EFTs.

What Happens If Markets Are Closed?

 If the market is closed when you place your trade: 

  • Your order will show under Pending Transactions 
  • It will execute as soon as the market opens 
  • Once filled, you’ll see the investment in your Portfolio

Understanding Your Portfolio View

What does my Total Portfolio Value mean? 

It’s the combined value of everything you own across all account types.
You can view your percentage gain/loss over different time frames:
1M, 3M, YTD, etc. 

Want to keep your balances private?
Tap the eye icon next to your Total Portfolio Value to blur or reveal values across the page. 

How do I see how each account is doing? 

Your portfolio overview is split by account type: 

  • Equities: ZAR / USD / AUD / GBP / EUR 
  • Retire: TFSA / RA / Provident Fund etc. 
  • Properties: EasyProperties 
  • Crypto: EasyCrypto

How do I sell or buy more of a share I already own? 

  1. Tap the account where you hold the share 
  2. Go to All Holdings 
  3. Find the share you want 
  4. Tap Sell or Buy more 
  5. Choose how much you want to trade 
  6. Pick your order type (default is "market order") 
  7. Confirm with a tap

How do I view or download my statements? 

  1. Tap the hamburger menu (≡) in the top left 
  2. Select Statements 

Here you’ll find detailed reports on your account’s: 

  • Portfolio summary 
  • Performance 
  • Asset allocation

  • Tax certificates (IT3B, IT3C)

How do I view my transaction history? 

  1. Tap the hamburger menu (≡) 
  2. Select Transaction History 
  3. Tap on the account you'd like to view 
  4. Select your date range and tap Submit 

Currently, you can only export a full year of transactions. For a specific month, filter on-platform or extract manually from the full file. We’re working to improve this experience - watch this space!

How Do I Withdraw My Funds?

When you're ready to cash out, here's how to withdraw from your EasyEquities account.

Step 1: Make Sure Your Bank Account Is Verified

Even though you're accessing EasyEquities via your Capitec app, you still need a verified bank account on your profile (in your name) before you can withdraw. 

To check or add one: 

  • Log in 
  • Go to My Profile (top right) 
  • Select Banking Details

Step 2: Check Your Withdrawable Funds

Not all funds may be immediately available to withdraw. 

On the Withdraw page, you'll see a clear breakdown: 

  • Withdrawable funds = what you can withdraw to your bank account right now 
  • Unsettled cash = funds from a recent sale that are still processing (standard 5-day settlement) 
  • Locked funds = recent deposits temporarily held before becoming withdrawable (based on deposit method) 

What does 'unsettled cash' mean?

Need access to your unsettled cash faster? 

You can request Early Settlement for a small fee - this unlocks funds before the standard wait period has passed. 

How do I settle funds early? 

You’ll also see your Maximum Portfolio Access - a summary of how much you could withdraw, based on your total portfolio value (excluding RA and preservation funds), minus any locked amounts. 

What are withdrawable funds?

Steps: 

  1. Log in and tap My Funds 
  2. Tap Withdraw 
  3. Select the wallet (ZAR, USD, etc.) 
  4. Enter the amount 
  5. Confirm your bank account details 
  6. Submit 

Local withdrawals are typically received within 1–2 business days
